PHOTO CARD HOLDER PATTERN
BY ser9io
MATERIALS:
3 x 4" toploader
4 mm or 3.5 mm hook (I used a 3.5 mm hook)
stitch marker
darning needle
scissors
yarn colors of your choice (I chose 2 yarns)
There are 2 versions you can choose from.
Version A, which is a standard photocard holder
OR
Version B, which will have a shell border
* BOTH versions will require 2 panels to be made: a front and back panel.
BACK PANEL
(0:33 of video)
We will begin by making the back panel
Starting chain: Chain 16 + 1 turning chain (the ONLY turning chain for the back panel)
Row 1-23: sc across (16 scs)
and fasten off.

Starting chain: Chain 16 + 1 turning chain (the ONLY turning chain for the front panel)
Row 1-3: sc across (16 scs)
Left side of panel:
Row 4-19: sc in the first 3 stitches ONLY (3 scs)
and fasten off.
Go to the other side (far-right sc of the 3rd row) and bring the yarn in
Right side of panel:
Row 4-20: sc in the first 3 stitches ONLY (3 scs)
Row 20 continued: chain 10 to get across to the other side, and do a sc in the 3 stitches of the left side

DO NOT FASTEN OFF.

INSIDE BORDER
(9:57 of video)
OPTIONAL:
You can add an inside border with a color of your choice
Just bring your yarn into any inside stitch, chain 1, and sc along the insides
Make 2 scs whenever you reach a corner
And fasten off once you reach back to your starting stitch
NO WRONG OR RIGHT AMOUNT OF STITCHES. ex. I made 17 scs on sides and 10scs on top.
NEXT: STITCHING PANELS TOGETHER
(12:23 of video)
Using the same working yarn from your front panel, you will be stitching the panels together by single crocheting the sides, the bottom, and the front panel's top row
To start: chain 1 (the chain 1s will be your corner stitch)
Sc the left sides of the front and back panels. (You made 23 rows for both, meaning you should have 23scs on the sides)
Chain 1 (corner stitch)
Sc the bottoms together; you made 16 chains, meaning the bottom should have 16scs as well
Chain 1 (corner stitch)
Sc the right sides of the panels; you should have 23scs
Chain 1 (corner stitch)
Sc ONLY on the front panel; you should have 16scs
IF MAKING Version A: once you make your 8th sc, chain a length for your strap, and continue a sc in the next 8 stitches and fasten off into the first sc made.
IF MAKING VERSION B: Make sure you have 82scs all together, including the corner stitches. VERY IMPORTANT SO SHELL COUNT IS EVEN. Fasten off once you have 82scs around!
SHELL BORDER
(17:12 of video)
Now that you have 82scs around, we will focus on the shell border.
Below is the layout of how everything should look.
SHELL BORDER WILL BE WORKED IN THE BACK LOOPS ONLY.
To start: Go into any stitch labeled as a 5dcs. I go into the 2nd stitch from the far right at the top
Bring your yarn in and chain 3 (counts as a dc), and do 4 more dcs in the same stitch (5dcs)
Skip the next 2 stitches, BUT chain a length for a strap; I do 8
Sc
and repeat 5dcs in the same stitch, skip 2, sc
PLEASE follow along with the image below.
SURFACE CROCHET
This part is optional; it is a bit difficult to explain without showing, so skip to 23:45 in my video to see how it is done. The 26:02 mark shows how to close/fasten off.
Below is an image overview.
I made sure to surface crochet on the 5dcs and sc, then go below into the back loop of the previous single crochet made during the shell part.
And complete!
